Did you know we only use natural materials?
At W1P Studios, we work exclusively with natural materials. This decision lies at the heart of our philosophy and shapes the way we design, produce and understand fashion.
Natural materials are fibres derived from natural sources, obtained from plants or animals. These include cotton, linen, wool and silk, among others.
In contrast, synthetic materials such as polyester, acrylic, elastane or nylon are petroleum-based and therefore essentially forms of plastic.
The difference between natural and synthetic materials reaches from their origin and extends throughout the entire life cycle of a garment.
Natural fibres come from renewable resources and are harvested or shorn within natural cycles. They can be divided into plant-based fibres such as linen, cotton, bamboo, viscose or lyocell and animal-based fibres including wool, alpaca, cashmere, silk or angora.
Synthetic fibres, are created through energy-intensive chemical processes and remain permanently unchanged in their structure – much like plastic.
Our conscious choice to use natural materials is driven by both ecological and design-related reasons. Natural fibres are biodegradable, do not release microplastics and in many cases can even be composted. They also possess self-cleaning properties, meaning garments often only need to be aired out and should be washed only when they are very dirty. This helps reduce water consumption, energy use and material wear.
At the end of a garment’s life cycle the contrast between these two types of fibres becomes especially clear: natural materials begin to decompose relatively quickly, while synthetic fibres – similar to plastic – can take hundreds of years to break down and release microplastics with every wash.
Natural materials play a key role in the design of our collections. They define the drape, volume and movement of a silhouette, giving each piece its own dynamic character. Breathable fabrics are very comfortable to wear, while synthetic materials often contribute to perspiration and odour build-up.
For us, the choice of material is not purely an aesthetic consideration, but an expression of responsibility.
Natural materials stand for awareness, reduction and a respectful use of resources. We regard every W1P Studios’ garment as an invitation to approach fashion more consciously.
